Abstract

While the epithet “NEET” was coined originally in the UK to define 16- and 17-year-olds who were outside the unemployment count, it is now applied internationally to a much wider age cohort of young people. This chapter questions whether “NEET,” as currently defined and applied, adequately captures levels of economic and social exclusion.
