Abstract

We report on recent progress in the conception and fabrication of hollow-core photonic crystal fibers. To illustrate their strong potential, experiments dedicated to the delivery and the manipulation of high-power ultrashort pulses are developed. Then, the limitations principally dictated by the nature of guidance of these fibers are highlighted and solutions proposed. Finally, recent works based on particular HC-PCF guiding broad optical transmission bands with relative low-loss are presented and their opportunities discussed. © 2010 IEEE.
