Abstract

A highly compact silica based wavelength filter for wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) datacommunication networks was presented. This design allowed the physical footprint of the filter to be in order of magnitude smaller than an arrayed waveguide gratings (AWG). The use of a transmission gratings allowed full N×N functionality to be achieved in contrast to Echelle based devices.
