Abstract

In this paper Q-switching is considered as a simple flexible single chip scheme which allows jitter improvements over gain-switching, thus maintaining high output powers. An addressed bias scheme allowed the comparison of GaAs and InGaAsP systems, bulk and MQW active layers, feedback lasers, and Fabry-Perot lasers, with respect to the jitter. Finally, measurements of timing jitter in high energy pico-second pulses are presented.
