Abstract

Title full: Halide abstraction from [(η5-C5H 5)NbCl4] leading to novel cationic niobium(V) species: Crystal structure of the 'double' hexachloroantimonate(V) salt [(η5-C5H5)NbCl(MeCN)4] 3+[(η5-C5H5)Nb(MeCN) 6]4+[SbCl6]7·7MeCN. Sequential removal of chloride ions from [(η5-C 5H5)NbCl4] can be realised using antimony(V) chloride in acetonitrile under controlled stoichiometry; the formation and structural characterisation of the novel Nb(V) cations [(η5- C5H5)NbCl(MeCN)4]3+ and ([η5-C5H5)Nb(MeCN)6] 4+ are described.
