Gain from helium-xenon discharges in hollow optical fibres at 3.5 μm

Abstract

Metre length He-Xe discharges have been demonstrated in anti-resonant guiding hollow core photonic crystal fibres. Emission was observed at 3.11, 3.37 and 3.51 μm, with characteristics strongly suggestive of net gain in the fibre.
