Abstract
Popular consumption is currently at the heart of public debate in Brazil. It has been approached as a truly national phenomenon, directly related as it is with public policies for distributing income. In effect, the latter’s most immediate outcome has been to increase the purchasing power of a substantial part of Brazilian society.
