Abstract

In this article, general characteristics of oral extended release dosage forms are exposed, main interest is focused in factors that can modify the bioavailability of drugs included. Firstly the terminology concerning these forms, their advantages, drawbacks and choice of an adequate drug were studied. Main factors affecting drug absorption from these forms will be now studied. Gastric emptying, intestinal transit, pH, absorption window and the concept of intestinal reserve length are studied.
