Abstract
A bi-cortical fixation pin 10A comprising a drill portion end 20 having a drill tip portion 22 and a first tap body portion 24 having a first pitch thread 25 configured to cut a first thread through a first cortex. A securing portion 30 is adjacent the drill portion and is configured, when received in the first cortex, to modify the first thread to secure said securing portion. A fixation portion end 40 is adjacent the securing portion and is configured to receive a surgical device. The first pitch may be configured such that when rotated at drilling speed, it advances the drill portion along an axial direction at a first rate through the first cortex, and the securing portion is configured to prevent drill portion advancement when secured in the first cortex. The fixation portion may be threaded or unthreaded.
