Abstract
Integrated multiple light sources is presented for achieving an m-ary digital code to overcome bandwidth limitations caused by chromatic dispersion and modal dispersion. The scheme allows correction for changes in the output power characteristics of the light sources and is easy to implement, particularly with arrays of laser diodes. Comparison of the eye diagrams of the individual laser sources and the combined output shows that the multisource method is resistant against modal dispersion and requires a less bandwidth.
