Abstract

A simple method for fabricating Au nanoparticles onto the apex of atomic force microscopy (AFM) tips is demonstrated. Apex-selected pulsed electrodeposition, controlled with voltage and pulse time, yields repeatable fabrication of spherical Au nanoparticle tips. Simultaneous fabrication of many tips is demonstrated, enabling high throughput. Surface-enhanced Raman scattering and dark-field spectroscopy are used to show improved plasmonic behavior compared with conventional Au AFM tips.
