Abstract

This report presents the findings from research commissioned by Bath & North East Somerset (B&NES) Council to examine food insecurity among older residents across the B&NES region. The research builds on a previous study which found that older people in the region were not accessing food support in the numbers anticipated, and that there was scant knowledge about how well older adults are being served by current interventions designed to identify and support ‘hidden communities’ . Addressing this was identified as a priority in the B&NES Food Equity Action Plan 2022 – 2025.

The qualitative research entailed interviews and focus groups with community members and support organisations, in which we explored challenges in accessing affordable food and experiences of food related support services.
