Abstract
Composable infrastructures require optimized network topologies to maximize flexibility, scalability, and efficiency to satisfy the growing applications requirements. This paper proposes and optimizes a Cellular Switched Optical Network topology designed for composable data centers (DCs). We develop a Mixed Integer Linear Programming (MILP) model with two optimization objectives: enhancing network throughput and minimizing total power consumption. The throughput optimization model aims to maximize throughput to accommodate large volumes of data with minimal delays between all communicating nodes in the Cellular Switch network architecture. The model demonstrates that nodes can achieve a total throughput of 1600 Gbps. Furthermore, the second optimization model minimizes the total power consumption through efficient routing within the topology. The results show up to 85% power savings when adopting the proposed Cellular-Switched Optical Network Topology across various traffic demand scenarios compared to state-of-the-art Spine and Leaf data center architectures.
