Abstract

This 1-hour film is a conversation with organic intellectual Itamar Silva, coordinator of the grassroot Grupo Eco based at the favela Santa Marta in Rio de Janeiro. Itamar is interviewed by two academics and a graffiti artist residing in a nearby favela. Their conversation promotes knowledge sharing between academic and non-academic knowledge producers from the Global South and North. It provides insight into self-empowerment and bottom-up strategies of communication, education and resistance.
