Abstract
This text analyses the role played by the Communist Party of Spain (PCE) in the antifascist guerrilla movement in Spain between 1939 and 1952. Some scholars have argued that PCE participated since 1939 in the construction of the guerrilla movement. In contrast, the author of this text argues that between 1939 and 1943 the PCE was not actively involved in the anti-Franco guerrilla because of the German-Soviet pact and lack of party structures inside Spain. The author notes that it was from 1944 that the PCE made all efforts to organize a guerrilla movement in Spain, shortly after becoming the dominant party of the anti-Franco opposition.
