Abstract

An electrochemical sensor has an electrode comprising: an electrode body formed from a non-noble metal; an external electrode surface, formed from a noble metal, having a root-mean-square (RMS) surface roughness of no greater than about 40 nm; and a redox-active molecular assembly located on the external electrode surface.
