Abstract

The differential propagation phase provides a means to obtain improved estimates of higher rainfall rates. However, one problem with the determination of this phase from circular polarization is the need to know the correlation and magnitude terms, respectively. In this study, different ways to determine the variables necessary to estimate the differential propagation phase are explored. It is shown that clipping of the linear receiver outputs affect the estimation of differential propagation phase in the circular polarization basis.
