title = "Eddy current loss reduction technique for solid rotor high-speed surface mounted motor",
abstract = "The eddy current loss in the rotor shaft can be ignored in the low-speed motor. However, it becomes more and more significant as motor speed increases, in particular use of solid rotor for high-speed motor. This can cause serious problems such as temperature rise and then leading to demagnetization of permanent magnets. This paper proposes a new method to reduce eddy current loss by creating slots on the solid rotor shaft surface. The effect of different slot numbers and slot depths will be investigated and verified by 3D electromagnetic simulation. This technique shows reduction of the rotor shaft loss by 60% at 110krpm for the optimised case, which can improve the motor efficiency by 0.21%.",
