Abstract

With the current trends towards faster response through e-commerce there has been increased pressure on efficient management of urban warehouses which operate in an environment with dynamic order patterns and stringent lead times. Thanks to the high-tech infrastructure of IOT platforms for tracking and managing the order pickers in real time, we consider a smart warehouse setting where all the pickers can be re-routed dynamically whenever needed. We propose a heuristic solution approach based on column generation that satisfies both solution quality and agile response requirements which deals with batching, picker assignment, and routing decisions.
