Abstract

The worst case Shannon capacities of OM1, OM2 and OM3 multimode fibre types are calculated. The worst case capacity length products are estimated to be 15 Gigabit per second kilometres (Gbit/s.km) for a single wavelength channel at 1300nm wavelength and 60Gbit/s.km for OM3 for operation at 850nm wavelength.
