Abstract
This paper examines how firms navigate digitalisation and climate change, distinguishing between adaptation-only, mitigation-only and dual strategies. This distinction matters as mitigation and adaptation are distinct, and their connection to digitalisation remains underexplored. Drawing on organisational learning and digital affordances theories, we argue that digitalisation enables firms to recognise climate change opportunities and risks. Analysis of 2022-2023 European Investment Bank Investment Survey data (25,000 firms across 27 EU countries and the USA) shows that more digitalised firms are more prone to adopt dual strategies and engage in more intensive climate action. These findings hold across regions, sectors and firm sizes.
