Abstract

Digital video pre-processing aims to eliminate the image noise that reduces the overall compression performance while preserving the visual quality of the image sequence. This paper extends our work on attribute morphology pre-processing to multidimensional spatio-temporal filters using both the standard volumetric approach and a sliding window implementation. A novel combination of spatial and spatio-temporal filters, each with their own attribute limits, is introduced and produces the best overall peak signal to noise ratio performance. The recently proposed power attribute is also shown to out-perform the area attribute.
