N2 - Differences between emulsions of decane + CCl4 in water, stabilized by Na oleate and Aerosol OT, respectively, cannot be accounted for by differences in electrostatic repulsion as long as spherical droplets are considered only. However, electrostatic repulsion may be suppressed when the deformation of droplets upon approach is taken into consideration. This is energetically feasible when the interfacial tension is lower than about 0.1 mN/m.
