Abstract
According to the invention, hydrophilic soft contact lenses are disinfected by soaking them in a disinfecting water solution which does not irritate the eyes, which solution is obtained by the addition to tap water of a chlorhexidine salt, a sequestering agent for calcium and magnesium ions and a dechlorination agent. The solution is suitably obtained by dissolving a tablet in tap water. The preferred sequestering agent is sodium tripolyphosphate and the preferred dechlorination agent is sodium bisulphate. The chlorhexidine salt consists preferably of a solid solution in urea in order to facilitate complete dissolving.
