Abstract

Regenerative systems are frequently encountered where positive displacement pumps and motors are to be tested at high pressure levels or for prolonged periods. However, there is little published information regarding the design and performance of these systems. This paper aims to redress this shortfall by developing general relationships applicable to regenerative systems as well as presenting the design of a system for a specific application. The steady running performance of a system has been simulated, and it is shown that the system operates with a good power saving over a wide range of conditions. The dynamic behaviour of the system has also been predicted and several areas for caution noted
