Abstract

The techniques for intensity modulation based on nonlinear interaction of two waves separated by Stokes shift are discussed. The dynamics of the hole burned within a 1550-nm data stream and within a broad 1550-nm background are further explored. Through 60-dB amplification of short 40 ps full width at half maximum pulses from a Q-switched laser diode, a approximately 1kW peak power pulses is generated which enables sufficient energy Stokes erasure pulses to be created in 10 m of dispersion compensated fiber (DCF).
