Abstract
A polypropylene/polyamide 6 (PP/PA 6) alloy nucleated by a novel supported β-nucleating agent was prepared in an internal mixer with two different methods, aiming at investigating the effect of dispersion of the β-nucleating agent in the PP/PA 6 alloy on the nucleating efficiency. The dependences of non-isothermal crystallization behavior, melting characteristics and β-PP content of the alloy on the preparation method and melting temperatures were studied with differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and wide angle X-ray diffractometry (WAXD). The results reveal that the β-PP content in the β-nucleated PP/PA6 alloy prepared by adding the nucleating agent at 190°C after the PP/PA 6 alloy melted is higher than that of the alloy pre pared from mixing β-nucleated PP and PA 6. Higher melting temperature is beneficial to the transformation of PP in the PP/PA 6 alloy into β-PP.
