Abstract
In the original article, there were errors in the financial calculations of the tax due for Imperial Tobacco, since UK net revenue had inadvertently been used in place of UK adjusted operating profits. This resulted in overestimates of the associated tax liability for Imperial Tobacco. Corrections have primarily been made in Table 1, in the rows for: UK adjusted operating profit; Estimated UK Profit before tax; Theoretical UK Corporation tax due; and Effective UK tax rate. Furthermore, the column for 2014 has also been updated as Imperial restated their accounts for that year resulting in small changes to the previous numbers reported. Corresponding corrections were also then made in the main text in light of these revisions to the financial performance of Imperial tobacco. In light of this error, very minor transcriptions errors were also identified and then corrected in Table II (global adjusted profits from operations in 2016, and actual overseas taxation charge & effective overseas tax rate in 2013), and also in Table III (estimated profit before taxation in 2016, and in the rows for Actual UK corporation tax charge and Effective UK tax rate). The overall substance and conclusion of the paper remains unchanged.
