Building Information Modelling

Research output: Chapter or section in a book/report/conference proceedingChapter or section

Abstract

This chapter will discuss Building Information Modelling and how it impacts on all stages of design, construction and use of a building. It will deliberate on what constitutes BIM in practice and its different Levels of implementation and how it supports the Government Construction Strategy. It will discuss how BIM is supporting the bringing together of all elements discussed within all chapters of the book, being them related to the practice of design and construction, about sustainability, health or considerations about resilience across the whole life-cycle of a building from inception to decommissioning. It will discuss the links with smart cities and the internet of Things (IoT). While it will present the state-of-the-art, it will also show the deficiencies. Cases will be present to illustrate BIM implementation.
