Abstract

Inset Dielectric Guide (IDG) has shown promise as a transmission media in the microwave and millimetric region in view of its low transmission loss, ease of fabrication and ability to negotiate bends with minimal loss. A newly discovered feature of this guide is its large degree of bandwidth control achievable with minimal tailoring of dielectric filling and cross sectional dimensions. In this paper we present full hybrid results obtained by means of a Transverse Resonance Diffraction analysis of the guide showing that a typical monomode bandwidth similar to ridge waveguide can be achieved. Unlike the ridge waveguide however, the IDG is an open structure that has already proven its usefulness as an antenna medium.
