Abstract

This book is an accessible overview of the nature of assessment, testing and evaluation in the context of EMI classrooms. In particular, it explores:

i) the purpose of assessment, testing and evaluation in EMI teaching;
ii) assessment literacy and different forms/approaches of assessment testing and evaluation in EMI classrooms;
iii) perceptions, issues, challenges and coping strategies used by EMI teachers/ tutors during assessment
iv) areas of interests in assessment, testing and evaluation

This book explores assessment, testing, and evaluation in English-medium education settings worldwide. It examines how assessments can effectively capture learning outcomes by integrating content mastery and language proficiency in multilingual and multicultural classrooms. Featuring contributions from experts across the globe, it provides an in-depth analysis of assessment practices, emerging trends, and their impact on teaching and learning.

The authors highlight the importance of inclusivity, equity, and effectiveness in English-medium instruction (EMI) assessment. The chapters cover a range of topics, including designing assessments that address both content and language objectives, tackling challenges in EMI assessment, and adopting emerging approaches such as formative assessments and translanguaging.
