Abstract

The advantages of combining Active Vertical Cavity Components (AVCC) and free-space optics in the implementation of reconfigurable wavelength multiplexing systems are discussed. The capability of such devices to provide wavelength conversion is also illustrated. Finally, possible extensions to Wavelength Division Multiplexing (WDM) involving both system and technological aspects are presented.
