Abstract

The primary aim of this study is to compare the effect of active nicotine replacement therapy patches with placebo patches on (1) smoking urges, and (2) number of smoking drags, in a sample of adult daily smokers. This is a remote experimental study lasting 58 days and it uses an N-of-1 design (each participant acts as his or her own control). Participants are randomly assigned to one of two sequence conditions (ABCCBCBBC or ACBBCBCCB), where A is the baseline period, B is an active treatment period and C is a placebo period.
