Abstract

Anomalously strong blue emission has been observed from GaAs/AlGaAs heterostructures under the internal second harmonic generation of femtosecond superradiant pulses. The conversion efficiency is by more than an order of magnitude greater than during standard lasing. The effect is attributed to the periodic e-h modulation and strong transient population gratings.
