Abstract

Simultaneous all-optical regeneration and wavelength conversion is demonstrated an in integrated semiconductor optical amplifier/distributed feedback laser after a 93 km span of standard single mode fiber. It is clearly demonstrated that the all-optical wavelength conversion process can support regeneration, totally removing the error floor produced from the fiber transmission, and actually creating a negative sensitivity penalty over the back-to-back input signal of -1.3 dB.
