Abstract

Use of an integrated semiconductor amplifier/distributed feedback laser to regenerate a 10 Gb/s signal was demonstrated after a 50km span of standard single mode fibre. It was shown that the wavelength conversion can be achieved for a wide range of input signal wavelengths within the gain bandwidth of the device. The signal exhibited intersymbol interference (ISI) due to the dispersion of 850ps/nm.
