Abstract

Reaction of the labile triosmium cluster [Os3(CO)10-(NCMe)2] with the thienyl substituted diyne [(C4H3S)-C2C2(C4H 3S)] affords [Os3(CO)1032-(C 4H3S)C2C2(C4-H 3S)}] 1 and the novel co-linear cluster [Os3(CO),{n3-n4-(C4H 3S)C2C2(C1H3S)}] 2 in reasonable yield; the X-ray structure of 2 shows that the diyne is coordinated to an 'open' triosmium unit as a l,2,3-triene-l,4-diyl unit with essentially equal C=C bond distances.
