Abstract

A multi-level subcarrier modulation technique was proposed to enhance the bandwidth performance and to allow 10 Gb/s transmission over multimode fibers (MMF). The proposed technique was based on the combination of multi-level signaling and subcarrier modulation techniques with baseband modulation. A laser/modulator configuration was used to achieve a balance in the system limitations. After 300 m of data transmission over MMF, the signals were detected, downconverted and displayed on digital oscilloscope. The analysis suggested that the proposed technique led to high speed data transmission over long link lengths.
