Our overall goal is to create a well-connected, united African biomedical research community focused in their own research interests. Vital in this process is a paradigm shift from rodents to Drosophila (fruit fly) as the choice model organism for studying disease in Africa. The “Building an African biomedical research community” workshop will help facilitate this over two-weeks by teaching basic fly experimentation tools, and how this invertebrate can function as a model for human diseases.
