This project evaluated the effectiveness of grants that were awarded by the Higher Education Academy to academics to improve their own and\or their colleagues teaching. The evaluation was based on HEA records which included academics accounts of the event and reflections on what they did\did not get out of it. Also telephone interviews with a selected number of staff.
The key finding was that the HEA filled a gap by providing this funding in that it is one of the few sources of funding that facilitates cross institutional learning with regard to teaching and learning. . Academics who had received funding said that they could not get funding like this from their own institutions. There were diverse rewards from attending such events and participants documented and relayed individual, departmental and institutional advantages.
