Project Details
Description
The project aims to advance maritime powertrains, focusing on challenges related to materials, power electronics, propulsion, and control engineering.
Layman's description
Electrifying the maritime sector is critical for cutting greenhouse gas emissions, improving energy efficiency, and aligning with global climate targets. However, transitioning to fully electric ships presents major challenges in charging infrastructure and control, requiring advanced strategies to ensure stability, compatibility, and efficiency in high-power maritime environments. Identifying and addressing these technical gaps is central to this research.
The project aims to advance maritime powertrains, focusing primarily on battery charging challenges related to materials, power electronics, propulsion, and control engineering. It builds a new network of four experts in high-voltage, low-weight, high-efficiency solutions. By combining expertise and cutting-edge technologies, it accelerates progress in clean maritime technology. This project marks the start of a long-term collaboration among the four GW4 institutions, paving the way for deeper industry engagement and enhanced opportunities for EU fundings. The goal is to enhance the sustainability of the decarbonised maritime sector, where fast, efficient, and resilient charging solutions become a cornerstone of next-generation infrastructures.
