GW4 Initiator Fund: Reconceptualising Participation and Inclusion in Higher Education Network

Project: Other

Project Details

new collaborative network called Reconceptualising Participation and Inclusion in Higher Education has been funded by GW4 under their initiator funding scheme for a total value of £14,000. This is jointly led by Professor Jane Seale (Exeter), Dr Sue Timmis (Bristol), Professor David James (Cardiff) and Dr Andrea Abbas (Bath).

The initiator phase aims to consolidate a network of researchers and practitioners and enable rigorous examination of the nature of participation in order to facilitate new, challenging questions about widening participation (WP) and Higher Education. We also aim to identify potentially new approaches, which may in turn lead to a step-change in the way in which institutions frame their WP policies and procedures.

Key findings

The project ran four workshops in which core ideas relating to the theme were discussed. Several bids have been developed by partners: two to the ESRC\NRF one of which was successful.
