Evaluating course-specific diagnostic tools

Project: Research-related funding

Project Details

Description

This project will evaluate the usefulness of data insights generated by course-specific skills diagnostic tools to short- and medium- term curriculum planning and teaching. HSS is piloting systematic use of course-specific versions of the Skills Diagnostic Tool during ‘Welcome Week’ 2024. These iterations will be populated by a Bath Insights intern during July and August 2024 using guidance from Directors of Studies, student feedback from OUEs and SSLCs in 2023- 4, and documentation held in Curriculum Planner. These tools will provide baseline data at a cohort-level of the confidence levels in the relevant skills and assumed prior knowledge. It is envisaged that the data insights will enable Directors of Studies and Unit Convenors to adapt their teaching plans and material to better meet the learners’ needs. These insights are likely to be particularly important to the implementation, evaluation and enhancement of units which have been part of the Curriculum Transformation process. This project will explore how different stakeholders have used the insights generated and evaluate its usefulness through a comparison of the pilot users’ teaching enhancement practice in academic years 2023/4 and 2024/5.
