Project Details
Description
The project “Cornwall Floating Offshore Wind Accelerator” was funded by the European Regional Development Fund and HM Government, and was a partnership between the University of Exeter, the University of Plymouth, Celtic Sea Power, and the Offshore Renewable Energy Catapult. I contributed to developing an optimisation and machine learning-powered Low Carbon Installation and Operations and Maintenance (O&M) Simulator. It models various installation and O&M strategies for floating offshore wind projects, assessing their impact on key performance metrics covering cost, and, innovatively, carbon intensity and energy returned on energy invested – both first-time evaluated in floating wind projects. This work provided strategic guidelines for farm developers and helped establish the South West as a leader in the UK’s floating wind development.
