Description
The purpose of this article is to look more closely at media literacy as an opportunity to mitigate or reduce the facilitation of the weight stigma in media. Essentially, can increasing media literacy reduce a person’s susceptibility toward, unknowingly, adopting and advancing weight stigma? Throughout history, stigma has imposed suffering on vulnerable groups and impaired efforts to thwart the progression of those diseases (Puhl and Heuer 2010). Now, if weight stigma can be reduced, this will play a significant role in improving the quality of life for obese individuals (Tsutsumi and Izutsu 2010).
