Project Details
Description
I have started a new research project looking at water-related challenges in heritage cities, including UNESCO's Great Spa Towns of Europe, cities involved in EHTTA (European Heritage Thermal Towns Association) and other cities in and beyond Europe where water-related tangible or intangible heritage is challenged by climate change, social inequalities and heritage injustice. Activities of this research include field trips to UNESCO Great Spa Towns to connect with researchers and non-academic stakeholders, including in Karlovy Vary (April 2024), Soa (May 2024), Baden bey Wien (July 2024), Vichy (May 2025), Baden Baden and Bad Ems (July 2025), the attendance of the EHTTA Thermal Tourism Congress in Budapest in June 2025, launching a call for interest within DECKNO in October 2024 and at HSS in April 2025 to bring together an interdisciplinary research centre for the exploration of the water- heritage-social justice intersection involving international partners and non academic stakeholders. The aim if the research group is to produce interdisciplinary research to engage with climate-change related water-based challenges relevant to heritage cities, involving academic and non-academic partners, publish, attract funding and organise conferences and workshops to inform policy and practice.
