Project Details

Our long-term vision is to develop a holistic solution to mercury contamination which i) reduces mercury levels in aquatic ecosystems and ii) delivers potable water and tangible economic benefits to the affected communities. Within the short timeframe of this project, we propose the development and implementation from the lab to the field, of an innovative and low-cost technological solution for the self-sustainable and decentralised provision of clean water. With this aim, we have established an interdisciplinary collaboration between the University of Bath (UoB), Universidad Nacional de Colombia (UNAL) and the Colombian Ministry of Environment (CMoE), which brings together engineers, scientists, experts working with local communities, government stakeholders and policymakers.
