Research interests

I am a member of the Powertrain and Vehicle Research Centre (PVRC) and the Institute for Advanced Automotive Propulsion Systems (IAAPS), and a PhD supervisor of the EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training in Advanced Automotive Propulsion Systems (CDT AAPS).

My current research interests are focused on the advanced electrical machines and drives for electric propulsion systems, including high speed generators and motors.

(1) High speed propulsion motors (30krpm, 150kW)

(2) High power density propulsion motors (con. power: 7kW/kg, 25kW/L)

(3) Thermal modelling and thermal management of propulsion motors

(4) Position sensorless and thermal sensorless controller for propulsion motors

(5) High reliability and high efficiency multi-phase electrical machines and drives

(6) High speed electrical machines for turbocharger and range extender

(1) Mr Yuchun Lin, started on 04/03/2019, Design and Analysis of High-Speed Machines for Electric Propulsion Systems;

(2) Mr Han Wang, started on 30/09/2019, Development of FPGA-based drive for high-speed electrical machines for electric propulsion systems;

(3) Mr Haolin Zheng, started on 30/09/2019, Advanced control of multi-phase electrical machines for electric propulsion systems;
