Research interests

I study global and multi-level environmental governance, comparative climate policy and environmental politics, with a geographic interest in China and Southeast Asia. My study explains the political dynamics of global climate leadership and China’s rising ambition in climate policy, focusing on the gaps between ambitious policy outputs and actual performance, as well as the potential and challenges of deep decarbonization within the Chinese economy. I apply computational and mixed approaches to these political science questions (especially the application of machine learning and LLMS). 

I currently work on a UKRI project—“Sustainability Governance of China’s Global Infrastructure Investments” (SGAIN). Through this project, I am exploring why and how China is repositioning itself in global climate governance via a range of multilateral initiatives, uncovering how interactions among diverse stakeholders shape the outcomes. More details can be found on the SGAIN Website. I am also a Research Fellow of the Earth System Governance (ESG) Project.
