Personal profile

Research interests

I joined the Accounting, Finance & Law Division at School of Management as an Associate Professor of Finance in October 2017, having previously been a Lecturer in Finance at University of Essex and Aston University.

I currently serve on the Editorial Board of British Accounting Review and I am a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (UK).

Research interests:

  • SME finance and entrepreneurial and start-up finance

  • Digital finance and financial developments with technology (digital lending/borrowing platforms)

  • Corporate finance and dividend policy

My current work focuses on identifying influential effects of financial innovations and financial technology developments on financial markets, addressing challenges that current businesses face, and providing solutions to adopt new technologies and to improve the customer experience, as well as the job environment conditions.

My research interests mainly lie in the areas of financing decisions, investment decisions and firm liquidity management and focus on two main themes:

  1. How firms (small/median/large firm size) manage their liquid assets and how the real effects of financial market conditions influence the firm’s financial decision making on investment opportunities.

  2. Alternative finance for SMEs, entrepreneurs and start-ups along with digital technology developments, including crowdlending financing and via initial coin offerings (ICOs).

My work has been published in several international journals, such as Journal of Corporate FinanceReview of Quantitative Finance and AccountingEuropean Journal of FinanceInternational Review of Financial Analysis, and Small Business Economics.

I have been an ad-hoc reviewer for several internationally well-established journals and conferences, such as Journal of Corporate Finance, British Accounting Review, International Review of Financial Analysis, Small Business Economics, International Journal of Banking, Accounting and Finance, Financial Management Association Annual Meeting, Financial Management Association European Conference, and INFINITI.
